When I started at Berklee College of Music, I was SO nervous. But the thing is, being at a music school wasn’t the scary part…making friends in my mid-twenties was. However, when I met Sasha on my first day, we instantly clicked. I remember she was wearing floral pants and was super bubbly when we happened to be in the elevator at the same time. It also just so happened that we were living on the same floor in our residence building: 160 Mass Ave.

Considering I was seven years older, we bonded over songwriting, how men were sooo annoying lol and the nerves of being away from home. We became like sisters, sharing advice and going to each other when the other one was having a meltdown.
That first year went by really quickly, and by the time it was May, I decided to move back to Canada to finish my creative writing degree and Sasha was about to embrace another couple of years of music school.
Have you ever had a friendship where you don’t see them very often but everytime you do, it feels like you picked up right where you left off? Fast forward three years and here we are:

On a trip to see my brother in Palm Springs, I amtrakked (trained) to LA to see some old friends, Sasha being one of them. As I approached Groundwork after getting out of a $60 Uber…I was SO excited to see Sasha again.
“You’re real!” Sasha said as she opened her arms for a hug.
“How has it been three years?!” I said, squeezing her.
And just like that, we were back at, catching up on whatever can happen in 1,095 days.

Those are the best kind of friends. Lucky to have a few such friends myself.
