Two days before Valentine’s Day, I was hanging out with my friend Traci, driving around downtown Vancouver. We had been out and about thrifting and dinner time was around the corner. We were torn between going to see a movie or grabbing some food, because movie theatre popcorn satisfies the dinner category, right?. We were pulled over in some side street while looking to see what time the movie was playing.
“Trace, look!” I said as I pointed behind her head as some six foot, bushy brown-haired, thin-build dude got out of his car.
“What am I looking at?” Traci said as she cranked her neck to the left.
“That guy – he looks cute from here.”
“Yeah, I can’t really see him but I’m sure he is.”
“He drives a car, that’s a plus!” We both started laughing. “Okay, so what times do they have for the movie?” I continued.
“I’m honestly pretty tired, maybe we should just go grab some dinner and head home.”
“Yeah, that’s fine,” I said. “Oh look, he’s walking around the corner, I can’t really get a good look of his face, but his side profile is cute.”
“You should put your number on his car!” Traci said, slouching back in her seat, scrolling.
“Noo. Yes? Should I?”
“Yeah, do it.. c’mon!”
I sat in the passenger seat of Traci’s car, rummaging through my purse and our bags of shopping to find something to write on. After a few seconds of searching, I ripped a price tag off a sweatshirt I had just thrifted.
“This’ll do,” I said as I scratched a quick note and my number on the back.
Hi – thought you were cute! Text me! XXX-XXX-XXXX 🙂

With this cutie nowhere in sight, I quickly ran towards his car parked on the opposite side of the street, peeking into his back seat, noticing an overflowing amount of groceries; milk, bread, peanut butter. I thought, okay, so he can afford groceries, I can work with that. I ran back to Traci’s car, Trace giggling in the front seat. I slammed the door and we bolted towards the mall, squealing like schoolgirls.
Hours went by and I hadn’t received a text from this potential love interest of mine.
“Maybe this could be the love of your life,” Trace said as she grabbed a few fries.
“Maybe,” I laughed, “But let’s not get our hopes up. It’s been like 4 hours and he had milk in the car, so he must’ve seen the note by now.”
Then, I got a TEXT!!

I will say, I thought it was a little strange he reached out considering he had a girlfriend. So, out of respect for her, I liked the message and moved on. But hey, it didn’t hurt to give a cutie a compliment!

I think it was actually gentlemanly of him to reply, as it meant he didn’t leave you hanging. And with the time lapse, there’s a good chance that he may have replied with his girlfriend.
